ALERT!  Killdeer Birds at Opalanie!

There are Killdeer birds ( that we have named “John and Jackie Kenne-deer”) that have chosen to build their nest in the parking lot at Opalanie Park.  The nest is surrounded by three construction barricades.  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should anyone approach or disturb these birds or eggs/nest which are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty act and will result in a fine of $1,000 (there are cameras at Opalanie).

It should be noted that “many a person has been fooled by the bird’s ‘broken-wing’ act, in which it flutters along the ground in a show of injury, luring intruders away from its nest” (per Audubon.org).  Please be mindful of staying away from John and Jackie and their eggs/nest.
