Questions and Answers

Q:  How do I report an accident?

If it’s an emergency, someone is hurt, or there’s a risk of fire or further injury, dial 9-1-1 immediately! An officer will respond to your need.

If it’s a minor accident under amicable circumstances, the law permits drivers to exchange information without contacting the police. However, most insurance companies do require copies of the police report as part of the claims process.

If you see a condition that may be an immediate traffic hazard, call 9-1-1. If your traffic concern is about speeding, signs, or other issues, contact our office at 610-458-3205 and we will be happy to investigate the situation.

Q:  Do you do home security checks when people are away?

Yes, we regularly patrol the Township, keeping an eye out for any unusual activity.  We also will check on individual homes if we are notified in advance that the occupants will be away.  Use the Vacation Notification Form available under the Useful Forms link on this site to let us know your travel plans.

Q:  Where can I drive my ATV?

Only on private land with the permission of the property owner.  ATVs are not licensed for use on public roads.  Keep off farm land between planting in the spring until after harvest in the fall; and remember, the pipelines are private land, too.

Q:  Where can I park to walk on the road by the covered bridge?

Remember, you are walking along a narrow public road with private land on either side.  We do not have public parking arrangements on French Creek Road, or any other road in the Township.  Ask permission of the property owner before you park anywhere, and please, once you have permission, park so your vehicle is completely off the road and does not interfere with normal traffic flow.

Q:  Do you have dog licenses?

Dog licenses may be obtained through the Chester County Treasure’s Office and locally; detailed information is available at http://dsf.chesco.org/treasurer/site/default.asp.  All dogs, 3 months of age or older, are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have a valid dog license.  Lack of compliance could result in a fine of up to $300.00.

Q:  What about hunting and fishing permits?

No, that’s not us.  These are both state functions.  Information on hunting and fishing and license requirements in the state and where to buy a license is available from the Chester County Treasurer’s Office at http://dsf.chesco.org/treasurer/site/default.asp and from the state at http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/ and http://www.fish.state.pa.us/, respectively.

Q:  Do you have the green house number signs?

Those come from the Ludwigs Corner Fire Department.  They are important home safety features, making it easy for emergency responders to find the right home, quickly.  For your convenience, you may obtain the form on this site under the Useful Forms link.  Complete the request and mail it to the address shown on the form.

Q:  Do you do speed enforcement on Township roads?

Yes, you will often see one of our patrol cars positioned to monitor traffic speed and flow at crucial points around the Township. We also use our “speed trailer” to automatically alert drivers to their speed and the posted speed; we find this gives drivers awareness of the limits and their personal driving habits and helps reduce excessive speed on our roads. If you would like the speed trailer to spend some time on a street near you, call the office at 610-458-3205.
